I lavori di Keith Haring non avevano mai destato il mio interesse, finchè visitando la Grace Cathedral di San Francisco – dove è locata la sua pala d’altare “dedicata” all’AIDS, mi ha fatto osservare con un occhio diverso l’importante lavoro realizzato da Haring, prima della sua morte.
Quando in libreria ho trovato i suoi diari ho pensato che fosse il modo migliore per entrare in sintonia con i suoi lavori, capirne il significato e apprezzarne pienamente la volontà figurativa.
Keith Haring approda giovanissimo a New York e ben presto, passando dai suoi primordiali lavori monocromatici scopre di poter dire di più utilizzando i suoi sintetismi grafici per comunicare con il mondo. Benchè spesso si interroghi sulla reale qualità del suo lavoro, le conferme arriveranno presto in un crescendo di notorietà e divulgazione culturale.
Dalle metro di New York alle gallerie di tutto il mondo il passo è breve. La nascità del Pop-Shop simboleggia al meglio la natura e il valore della cultura contemporanea del tempo e di quella filosofia che Andy Wharol aveva fomentato diventando un artista di fama mondiale, un’icona e una star del suo tempo.
La sviluppo della coscienza artistica di Keith Haring spazia nei generi e diventa sempre più concreta. Ricche pennellate su svariate superfici per rappresentare l’esistenza umana. Da “erotografo” dai temi espliciti e sensuali, a Antitropo immaginatore della fanciullezza come simbolo di purezza e opportunità per il futuro e infine ispirazione-break-dance, allegoria del costante movimento – mai assente nei lavori di Haring.
Diviso tra l’America, il Belgio e l’Italia – Keith Haring viaggia ininterrottamente negli ultimi anni della sua vita, nei quali si dedica a pieno regime all’ arte per paura di non lasciare abbastanza creatività per gli anni a venire.
I diari raccolgono racconti e pensieri degli anni “felici” di Keith perso nella sua entusiasmante vita di artista, amante, amico e uomo. Narra dei suoi dubbi, delle sue nottate passate in aereo, delle interminabili ore di sesso occasionale e di quell’incessante bisogno di condividere e donare la sua arte con gli altri. Si rivela così, nelle pagine di questo libro, il meticoloso studio dietro ogni graffito e il significato del suo lavoro come forma irresistibile di comunicazione moderna di massa.

English / The work of Keith Haringhad never interested me, ‘till the moment i visited Grace Cathedral in San Francisco – where he gifted his altarpiece “dedicated” AIDS, caught my eyes and i started to get the to important work done by Haring, before his death. When I found his diaries, at the book store, I thought it was the best way to get in tune with his works, understand its meaning and appreciate his figurative ideas completely.
As soon as Keith Haring arrives in New York, its primal monochrome work turns to talking-art and its graphics synthesis starts to communicate with the world. Though often ask himself about the real quality of his work, the confirmation will come soon in a huge fame and cultural dissemination. From the New York subways to the worldwide galleries, it tooks Haring a short step. The birth of the Pop-Shop best symbolizes the nature and value of contemporary culture and the philosophy of that time when Andy Warhol used to be a world-famous artist, an icon and a star of that decades.
The development of consciousness by Keith Haring spans genres and becomes more and more concrete. Rich brushstrokes on a variety of surfaces to represent human existence.
