Si sà delle vere amiche si può fidarsi sempre… più o meno.
A Liz Purr non manca davvero niente. E’ la reginetta del Ballo, la ragazza più bella del Liceo, fa parte del gruppo più popolare della Reagan High School e le sue migliori amiche sanno come sorprenderla! Il giorno del suo compleanno Courtney (Rose McGowan) , Julie (Rebecca Gayheart) e Foxy (Julie Benz) decidono di farle la festa e di coglierla nel sonno inscenando un rapimento. Tutto fila liscio fino a quando scoprono che l’amica giace morta nel bagagliaio posteriore dell’auto, uccisa per asfissia da una coloritissima spacca-mascelle caramellata. Quello che era iniziato come uno stupido gioco si trasforma velocemente in un omicidio. E quando le ragazze intente a riportare il corpo senza vita di Liz nella sua cameretta – nel tentativo di farlo passare per uno stupro – vengono beccate in flagrante dalla sprovveduta Fern Mayo (Judy Greer), dovranno subito ricorrere ad un piano. Sarà Courtney, la più disincantata del gruppo, a prendere le redini della situazione e costringere le altre ragazze a trasformare Fern in una di loro come pegno del suo silenzio. Ma quando Fern diventa così celebre da spodestare Courtney dal suo trono di reginetta, il vetriolo si spargerà copiosamente lungo i corridoi della Reagan High. Toccherà alla Detective Vera Cruz (Pam Grier) ostacolare i piani macabri della crudele Courtney.
Jawbreaker – Amiche Cattive, è una dark comedy independente dai toni effervescenti da gita-scolastica con una ricca composizione tragicomica sulle turbe più profonde e irrazionali che contraddistinguono l’adolescenza. Nato come una rivisitazione di fine secolo di film cult come “Carrie” di Stephen King e “Heathers – Schegge di Follia” con Winona Ryder e Christian Slater, seguiva l’onda di successo che ha reso generazionali film horror come Scream e So Cosa Hai Fatto. Un pizzico di stile anni 90, dialoghi frivoli e taglienti e una componente di ammiccanti riferimenti alla cultura gay ed il gioco è fatto. Se pur sia finito nel dimenticatoio cinematografico – “per ovvi motivi” direte voi – rimane uno dei miei teen-movie preferiti. Da guardare e riguardare!

Liz Purr ain’t really miss anything from life. She’s the Prom queen, the most beautiful girl in high school, part of the most popular group at Reagan High and her best friends know how to surprise her! On her’s birthday Courtney (Rose McGowan), Julie (Rebecca Gayheart) and Foxy (Julie Benz) decide to make her the party and to waking her up from asleep staging a kidnapping. Everything goes smoothly until they discover that her friend is lying dead in the trunk of the car, killed by a jawbreaker candy. What started as a silly game quickly becomes a murder. And when the girls intent to bring the lifeless body of Liz back in her bedroom – in an attempt to pass it off as a rape – they get caught in the act by loser and naive Fern Mayo (Judy Greer), now they need a good plan! Courtney the more disenchanted girl in the group take control of the situation and force the other girls to transform Fern in one of them as a token of her silence. But when Fern becomes too famous to stand against Courtney, vitriol will spread profusely along the aisle of Reagan High. It’s up to Detective Vera Cruz (Pam Grier) thwart the plans of the gruesome cruel Courtney.
Jawbreaker , is a independent dark comedy with the tones from sparkling trip-school with a rich composition tragicomic crowds on the most profound, irrational and hard times of teen-hoods. Born as a retelling of the century of cult films such as “Carrie” by Stephen King and “Heathers” with Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, followed the wave of success that has made generational horror films such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. A pinch of 90’s style, frivolous and sharp dialogue and a component of winking references to gay culture and you’re done! Even if it got into oblivion film – “for obvious reasons” you probably say – remains one of my favorite teen-movie. To see again and again!
