GERMANY | HAMBURG + BLANKENESE

Pensi sempre che dopo aver preso numerosi aerei, preparato tanti mini-bagagli sempre troppo stretti e aver girellato un bel po’ arrivi il momento in cui smetterai di sentire lo stomaco sottosopra mentre attendi di imbarcarti sul prossimo volo. Ma quel momento non arriva mai.

Saliamo su un aereo diretto a Amburgo-Lubecca. Priscy mi ha regalato questa piccola fuga per i miei 30 anni come distrazione da un 2013 davvero difficile e ha pianificato sei giorni da veri Tedeschi. Amburgo come meta principale, Blankenese come pit-stop, Lubecca come meta secondaria e d’appoggio per visitare Wismar, Schwerin e Travemunde.

Tappe insolite per i viaggiatori Italiani nella settimana post-ferragosto. Sarà stata la mancanza delle atmosfere Belga ma questa volta volevamo scoprire piccole nuove realtà entrando in contatto con la consuetudine Germanica. E ci siamo riusciti.

AMBURGO, seconda città più grande della Germania, è concentrata in piccoli grandi spazi. Le sue numerose chiese gotiche dalle forme acuminate pungono il cielo nuvoloso. L’architettura moderna si incastra perfettamente con gli edifici di mattoni rossi che sovrastano la città. Non rinunciamo mai ad una iper-calorica colazione da Starbucks dove ordiniamo “Tall Cappuccino” e poi passeggiamo tra i negozi e visitiamo Musei, edifici storici e osserviamo la città muoversi intorno alle acque calme del fiume elba. La chiesa dell’ orologio di St.Michaeliskirche troneggia sul porto come un osservatore antico che, elegante e silente, scandisce le ore frenetiche del giorno. In balia della metropolitana che in fretta percorre la città in lungo e in largo scopriamo Amburgo e i suoi spot imperdibili. Uno fra tutti la Speicherstadt, un enorme complesso anseatico di mattoni rossi dove ancora oggi si conservano caffè, spezie e seta. La sera la città si ferma ma il tramonto tarda ad andarsene per noi che ancora attraversiamo le strade deserte del centro.

Il terzo giorno saliamo su un treno diretto a Blankenese, gli Hamptons germanici, dove troviamo ad attenderci una schiera di villette e casette che si affacciano sulle acque gelide dell’Elba. Attraversiamo le viuzzole per raggiungere la città, piena di vita tra negozietti e tipiche backerei. Il cielo grigio ci intima di fuggire prima della pioggia e così ci dirigiamo verso Lubecca.

You always think that after taking several planes, prepared so many mini-luggages and have quite walk through cities you get to the point where you stop feeling worry while waiting to board the next flight. But that moment never comes.

Get on a plane to Hamburg-Lübeck. Priscy gave me this little getaway for my 30 years birthday as a distraction from a very difficult 2013 and he has planned six days as real Germans. Hamburg as main goal, Blankenese as pit-stop, Lübeck as a secondary destination and base to visit Wismar, Schwerin and Travemünde.

Unusual stops for Italian travelers in the post 15th August week. Maybe it was the lack of Belgian atmosphere but this time we wanted to find small new realities coming into contact with the Germanic tradition. And we succeeded.

HAMBURG, Germany’s second largest city, is concentrated in small open spaces. Its numerous Gothic shapes sharp churches sting cloudy sky. The modern architecture fits perfectly with the red brick buildings that overlook the city. We never give up to a hyper-caloric breakfast at Starbucks where we order “Tall Cappuccino” and then stroll through the shops and visit museums, historic buildings and observe the city moving around the calm waters of the river Elba. The clock’ church St.Michaeliskirche towers over the port as an observer ancient, elegant and silent, beating the hectic hours of the day. At the mercy of the subway we quickly go through the city in the length and breadth discovering Hamburg and its hot spots. One of all it is the Speicherstadt, a huge red brick hanseatic complex where they still retain coffee, spices and silk. In the evening the city stops but the sunset late to leave for us who still go through the deserted streets of the center.

On the third day we get on a train to Blankenese, the Deutschland Hamptons, where we find waiting for a row of villas and cottages overlooking the icy waters of the Elbe. We cross the tiny streets to reach the city, full of life, shops and typical backerei. The gray sky counsels us to escape before the rain, and so we head towards Lübeck.
