NIPPON TRIP | OSAKA

Lasciata Tokyo e dopo il piccolo daytrip a Nikko, ci dirigiamo verso Osaka. Le due città sono lontane non più di due ore l’una da l’altra. Appena approdati in città capiamo che i Giapponesi non sono forti con l’inglese, però, hanno una disponibilità innata perché le ragazze che fermiamo per chiedere indicazioni ci accompagnano direttamente all’Hotel. Sono curiosi e divertiti dalla presenza di stranieri e noi siamo incuriositi dalla caotica Osaka.

OSAKA

Il brutto tempo ci frega costringendoci a girellare con l’ombrello nel centro della città tra un negozio e l’altro. I piccoli quartieri sono accostati tra loro, un po’ più usurati di Tokyo e più simili – a come immaginiamo – una città cinese. I ristoranti e gli edifici accalcati tra loro sono divisi solo da una enumerabile quantità di negozi.  Sono lungo la strada, nelle gallerie e sottoterra in un centro commerciale sotterraneo lungo tutta la linea metropolitana. Sono così tanti che dopo il primo giorno ne abbiamo già abbastanza.

Visitiamo Amerika-mura con la sua statua della libertà arrampicata su un edificio dal look anni 70/80 e ci perdiamo in cerca di un rifugio dalla pioggia battente. Prima di approdare da Starbucks, nel quale c’è un’enorme libreria da fare invidia alle biblioteche più rifornite, troviamo Beams – una boutique per veri fashionisti.

La mattina successiva attraversiamo la città in metro per arrivare all’Umeda Sky Building dove sono situate due torri gemelle con un “giardino” pensile dal quale osservare Osaka dall’alto. La vista è splendida e l’altezza perfetta per le mie vertigini. Ai piedi dello stesso troviamo una ricostruzione fedele del Giappone di un’altra epoca nel quale sono allestiti numerosi ristoranti. Pranziamo con ottima tempura e riso e, come sempre, siamo “vittime” dell’entusiasmo delle cameriere Giapponesi.

Nel pomeriggio visitiamo il Castello di Osaka. L’enorme parco che accoglie il castello è elegante e ben conservato, nonostante la bellezza esteriore dell’edificio, si rivela una costosissima bufala. In esso sono raccolti vecchi video e qualche cimelio bruttino. La vista sul parco però ci ripaga della faticosa scalata a piedi. Per cena concludiamo con dell’ottimo Sushi preparato su ordinazione, lo gustiamo al bancone e io provo per la prima volta la rivoluzionaria liberazione respiratoria del wasabi – e sopravvivo.

Questa città è il posto perfetto se si desidera immortalarsi con occhi sgranati in una famigerata Perikura o se si ha bisogno di rinnovare il guardaroba dal primo all’ultimo capo dedicandosi ad intere giornate di shopping. In effetti, Osaka non ci fa impazzire e prima di lasciarla definitivamente, trascorriamo una giornata a Nara…

OSAKA

We leave Tokyo, after the small daytrip to Nikko, to head to Osaka. The two cities are not far from each other. Once landed in town we understand that the Japanese are not strong in English, however, have an innate availability because the girls we stop to ask for directions take us directly to the hotel. They are curious and amused by the presence of foreigners and we are intrigued by the chaotic Osaka.

The bad weather forces us to walk around with an umbrella in the city center between one store and another. The small neighborhoods are close to each other, Osaka appears very different from Tokyo and a little more like we imagine a Chinese city could be. The restaurants and buildings are only separated by an enumerable amount of shops. You can find shops on the road, tunnels and underground and in the underground shopping mall along the subway line. There are so many of them, that after the first day we had enough already.

We visit Amerika-mura with its statue of liberty climbing on a building with a 70/80s look and we’re still in search of shelter from the rain. Prior to land at Starbucks, where there is a huge library that reveals the most stocked library, we find Beams – a boutique for true fashionistas.

The day after we cross the city by metro to get to the Umeda Sky Building where the twin towers with a “garden” rooftop are located and from which to observe Osaka from the top. The view is beautiful and the height is perfect for my dizziness. At the bottom of the towers, there is a faithful reconstruction of Japan from another era in which numerous restaurants are settled up. We lunch with excellent tempura and rice and, as always, we are “victims” of the enthusiasm of the Japanese waiter.

In the afternoon we visit Osaka Castle. The huge park that houses the castle is elegant and well preserved, despite the outward beauty of the building, it reveals a very expensive hoax. In it are collected old videos and some ugly heirloom. The view of the park repays the hard work of climbing the eight floors. For dinner, we conclude with the excellent Sushi made to order, enjoying it at the counter and I taste – for the first time – the revolutionary respiratory liberation of wasabi – and I survive.

This city is the perfect place if you want to have fun in a funny Perikura photo booth or if you need to renew your wardrobe from head to toe, devoting whole days to shopping. In fact, we didn’t fall in love with Osaka and before leaving for good, we spend a day in Nara…
